Attend the Trial

Science Court cases are selected based on ideas pitched by students taking the Science Court Honors Seminar (HSEM 3511H) at the University of Minnesota. Working in interdisciplinary teams of science and liberal arts students, multiple ideas are initially pitched. These are narrowed down to three finalists and then following more in-depth research, a final case is selected. This year's case is:

Problem: Nuclear power, which is a clean and highly efficient source of energy, is underutilized in the United States.

Solution: The U.S. government should increase funding for the development and construction of nuclear power plants with the aim of significantly increasing nuclear power use.

The Fall 2019 Science Court Trial will take place on the following dates:

  • Sat 11/23, 9am-12pm: (presentation of evidence) + 1-4pm (legal arguments)
  • Tue 11/26, 6-9pm: Verdict announcement, public discussion and screening of the Fall 2019 Science Court documentary

The trial will be held at West Hall, Room 100, Hamline University, 1492 Hewitt Avenue, St. Paul, MN.
